Philosophy |
Technique is the core of our lessons, and we can apply good technique to a variety of styles-classical, contemporary, musical theatre and pop. I don't believe in "one size fits all", and I tailor exercises to the individual student. I also don't believe that one method works for all students or styles. Singers cannot just apply classical technique to contemporary singing, nor should they throw out years of tried and true classical foundations. It is important for versatile singers to understand what they are doing that makes each style sound the way it does. I am constantly continuing to learn about the latest advancements in vocal science through classes, conferences, and workshops and consider myself an expert in the field.
We will work hard, together, to improve your sound and get you singing with a beautiful tone, increased strength and vocal range. We do all this while still keeping things fun! I am honest, but also very encouraging! I believe each voice is unique, with limitless potential. I truly care about my students as people as well as singers, and strive to have a positive impact on you as a complete singer, performer and person!!! We work hard to get you out there, finding auditions, and making you aware of various opportunities! |
For my adult students...you absolutely take the lead-we will work on your 16 bar audition pieces, or a technique issue that is bothering you in your teaching, cantoring or gigs. Actors have found my methods especially useful before big auditions. Actors consistently tell me how much their lessons impacted their next big audition and helped them "land that job!" Even if you are working, it is critical to tackle the technical issues to take that next step. Let me help you to feel confident and make honest acting choices, all in a positive environment.
For my younger students (under 20!), I fully believe in developing the "whole" voice, and I will challenge you musically in both classical and contemporary production and literature, musicianship, and sight-singing! Stage presence and performance presentation are equally important, since most of us don't plan on just singing in a recording studio!
